Fill in the Blank Friday

Wait, what day is it?

I missed Fill in the Blank Friday. Oops my bad. I worked, came home and tried to get the house cleaned up, found out our neighbor's 5 month old puppy died :(, helped my friend Elizabeth with her newborn while she bathed her 13 month old, picked Nate Dawg up at the airport (his flight was delayed), then met friends at a bar/grill for dinner and drinks. Therefore, I did not have time to blog. Forgive me, dears.

1. My Halloween plans this year will include either cooking out with my neighbors, or avoiding all trick or treaters and eating their candy. Last year Nate Dawg brought out our grill and made food for everyone in our driveway. This year he is not here. And this is one of the grills:

Sam did this
2. My most memorable Halloween costume was my Barbie/clown outfit. I couldn't decide which one I wanted to be, so I wore the Barbie outfit with a clown wig. My parents have the picture, I don't have it here. But it was good times.

3. For Halloween this year I'm going to be super hot girl sitting in her house? ha

4. I've always wanted to dress up as your mom. Similar to Mallory's costume, except with mom jeans. Ya know, high waisted, tapered ankle jeans. I'm laughing just thinking about it.

5. Halloween free association! I don't get this. I was trying to figure out what it would mean and somehow got Garth Brooks American Honky-Tonk Bar Association in my head.

6. The worst thing about Halloween is it's cold. And I eat way too much candy.

7. The best thing about Halloween is I eat way too much candy.

Check out Lauren's  blog and link up!

Candy, Candy, Candy

Normally, I go shopping for Halloween candy at least a week before Trick or Treating. When I buy candy early, I eat some most of it, then I have to go shopping for more of it right before the big event. It's a sickness.

Yesterday I made my way to the candy aisle in Target. Not a good idea when you are hungry. There were bags of candy for $14.99. Ridic. After much research, I settled on a mixed bag of 100 pieces of Kit Kat, Reese's, Whoppers, and Hershey bars. Then I opened the bag before I left the store. Oops.

So, now that I've managed to eat about half of this bag of candy and my pants are snug, I've decided I may not participate in Trick or Treating this year. Is that bad? I would kind of rather sit on my couch and watch TV and eat the rest of this candy than get up every time the doorbell rings. Plus, Norman is so big that he scares kids. Especially when they ring the doorbell. Dog has a ferocious bark.

All in all, I'm doing this for Norman. Or the kids. Or their parents. Or something like that.

The candy that is left is housed in the obligatory Star Wars can.

Yes, we're adults. But it's the obligatory, so it's required. I have to put candy in there. And I'm pretty sure it's in the family law somewhere that all candy must be consumed ASAP. Or something like that.

I found this disturbing information on Skinny Runner's website. Be afraid. Be very afraid.

Here are the calories for some Halloween candies:

Nestle’s Crunch – Fun Size 3 bars=210 calories
Peanut M&M’s – Fun Pack 2 bags=80 calories
M&M’s – Fun Pack 2 bags=180 calories
Snicker’s – Fun Size 2 bars=160 calories
Milky Way – Fun Size 2 bars=150 calories
Kit Kat – Fun Size 2 bars=100 calories
Hershey Chocolate Bar – Fun Size 1 bar=90 calories/ 5grams of fat
Reese’s Cup – 1 cup=80 calories
Butterfinger – Fun Size 1 bar= 100 calories
Twix – Fun Size 1 bar= 80 calories
York Peppermint Pattie – 1 pattie=70 calories
Twizzlers – 1 treat size pkg= 45 calories
Almond Joy – 1 snack size bar = 90 calories
Milk Duds – 1 treat size box = 40 calories
Butterfinger – 1 snack size bar = 100 calories
Milky Way – 1 snack size bar = 90 calories
SweetTarts – 1 treat size pkg. = 50 calories
1 Tootsie Pop – 1 pop = 60 calories
1 Tootsie Roll – 1 small roll = 13 calories

Note: Calorie content is based on 1 serving of Halloween snack or fun size packages, not full size servings found in the candy aisle.

My favorite Halloween candy would probably be Butterfinger or Twix. Which reminds me, I didn't get any Twix.

Least favorite would be Tootsie Roll. Not that I would turn one down, but they're just kinda plain and boring.

What about y'all?

Ay Dios Mio!

Oh yes, it's the time again. It has been quite a day.

Sunday night tornado sirens went off and what not, bad storms, blah blah blah.
I'm from Oklahoma yo, tornado sirens do not make me take cover, they make me go outside and look. Monday night we had storms. So first thing this morning, we had a tornado drill at school. 1,100 students in a tornado drill. Ay Dios Mio!

Then this afternoon, we actually had to take cover because of a tornado warning. I did what I was told and took my students to a small room just to be safe. We were in the room for like 20 minutes or something. I looked at the weather channel app on my phone and the storm was right over our town. As I'm looking at that, they release us from our safe place. Weird. Then the tornado sirens went off. And they never sent us back to take cover. So I just had to teach through the tornado sirens. Ay Dios Mio!

We had parent/teacher conferences today from 4-7. I got a call at 2:38 from the house showing people that said someone wanted to see our house at 2:45. I said no, because I'm supposed to have an hour notice, plus I had to be at school at 4. I live too far away to drive back and forth through school zones and what not. So then the house people call back at 2:57 and say someone wants to look at our house at 2:45. I said, "You know it's 2:57, right?" So they apologized and said they would be sure and give me an hour notice. Duh, that's what we agreed to a month ago. Ay Dios Mio!

My neighbor sent me this picture of the storm above our house:

I asked her to check in on Norman for me. So she goes in, pets him, opens the back door, and sees this:

My favorite tree, Sam, did not survive the storm. Ay Dios Mio!

I named him Sam because he's a Bradford Pear tree. Get it? Sam Bradford?

Heisman Trophy Winner, Sam Bradford.

#1 draft pick, Sam Bradford.
Anyone, anyone?

So I took 1/2 day off tomorrow because someone is coming out to cut it up and haul part of it off. The rest I want to leave here for firewood. Then a claims person or whatever from our insurance company will come out and inspect the damage. Ay Dios Mio!

Good thing I didn't let those folks look at our house. They would've opened the back door to this
Ay Dios Mio!

Oh, and I got to leave school early. So I didn't have to have one conference. I got home at 4, as opposed to 7. Scoreboard!

And just look how happy that made Sam!

Quote of the Day

From a precious student:

 "Mrs. Baker, I frew up."

Miscellany Monday

Miscellany Monday @ lowercase letters

Is it Monday again already?

-Elizabeth had her baby girl Saturday night! She came all on her own. Wylie Grace was born at 8:12pm. She weighed 7lbs and was 20 inches long.

How precious is she??

-I visited my friend Paula yesterday. I mentioned that her son Charlie fell 20 feet from a balcony 2 weeks ago. Well, he looks amazing. The before pictures are ridiculous. He looks so, so good now. He's not back to normal by any means, but he has improved so much. They still have a long road ahead with the traumatic brain injury. They have stayed so, so positive during this hard situation.

-Parent/Teacher Conferences are tomorrow from 4-7. I live far enough away from the school that I can't come home for an hour between school and P/T Conferences. Sigh. So to waste time, I think I'll go get my flu shot. Doesn't that sound exciting?

-I've been wanting red velvet cookies. So I made the dough and it's still sitting in the mixer. I keep walking over and eating a spoonful, then going back to the couch. I want the cookies made, but I don't want to make them. Little help please?

-I had a dream last night that Carrie Underwood married one of Nate Dawg's friends from college. This friend, who does not exist, was apparently in lots of Nate's classes and Nate helped him get an A in class. So we were at this wedding reception, I was pretty much stalking her, then she gave in and became my friend. But apparently I intimidated her so much that she was scared not to be my friend.

Maybe I should be a little less obsessed with the girl.

-Norman just ran outside barking. Then I smelled a skunk. I didn't see one, but now I smell like a skunk. This is no bueno.

Fill in the Blank Friday

I'm a first time participant of this fill in the blank business. And I kinda like it. Check out Lauren's Blog and link up!

I am praying so very hard for my friend Paula and her family. 2 weeks ago her son fell 20 feet off of a balcony. He and a friend were on the balcony, they leaned on the railing and the railing broke. The friend was able to step back, but her son Charlie wasn't so lucky. He was falling backwards, but was somehow able to turn himself over so he fell on his face. That actually saved his life. He has traumatic brain injury, a broken neck, 5 broken ribs, broken eye socket, and he cracked his skull. But he's alive. And he is improving every day! God is so good.
Turns out it was the railing was held together by staples. He landed on aggregate. Charlie's friend has kids and when Charlie found out that it was held together by only staples, he said such a selfless thing. He said, "Thank goodness it was me that fell and not one of the kids."

I wish my friend Elizabeth would have her daughter tonight. She's being induced Monday if baby Wylie Grace doesn't make her debut before then. It would be nice if she would just show up for the party already!

I like my husband. I mean, I love the guy. But I really, really like him too. We have fun together and we LIKE to be together. We've been married 4 1/2 years (on Oct. 29) and I still get butterflies when I see him.

I can (not) cry about missing my husband. I can finish the semester here, move to Oklahoma and be with him. I think I can. I know I can.

I hope to eventually have a Theta reunion with all of my besties from college. We have all of these loooong, funny, daily emails. I miss em.

I think it's about time for these elections to be over. We DVR everything, but when I accidentally watch something live and have to see the stupid campaign commercials...it just gets on my nerves.

I was feeling sorry for myself the other day. All this crap about licensing and what not. It's frustrating, and I actually started feeling down about it. Nate Dawg told me, "Do whatever you want, as long as you're happy. You've given up so much to follow my career." How stinkin lucky am I??? But he still won't let me be a stay at home wife.

It was worth a try.

Friday Ramblings

So I forgot that I was going to make Thursdays "Theta Thursdays". Crap!

I have 9 vacation/sick days to use before I leave my school. So I took the day off.

My father-in-law has been here all week cleaning out stuff, doing yardwork, etc. He's retired, so he "tinkers" in the yard. He cut down a tree, trimmed a bunch of branches on all of our trees, burned some stuff in our fire pit, bought me supper. It's been nice! Today on our list, take stuff to the dump. Good times.

He's currently taking a mid-morning nap on the couch with Norman.

I planted St. Joseph on Wednesday. By planted, I mean buried upside down, facing the road, close to our for sale sign. People believe that St. Joseph will help sell their house. My mother-in-law gave me their St. Joseph statue that they used to sell 2 of their houses. I was about to curse St. Joseph (kidding), when I got a call yesterday that we have a showing on Saturday! So I'm going to sell my house Saturday. Hopefully.

I'm getting a Pumpkin Peel Facial With After-Peel Fruit Mask that I bought for $65 on Living Social Deals. I have an appointment Saturday at 3. Everyone is building up their pumpkin facials and what not right now. With this facial, I also got a $20 gift card towards other services. So that's pretty exciting.

I just got off the phone with Wells Fargo for the 3rd time this month. We always pay every 2 weeks and pay extra on our mortgage. I called a few weeks ago to take an extra money out to have applied towards principal. Apparently they misunderstood me and took out less money. So I called 2 weeks ago about it and they said they fixed it. Today they took out even less money. Idiots. I made the girl I just talked to promise me that it's fixed.

On a lighter note, here's a pic of some wild mustangs I took at PW's ranch last week.

They thought I was there to feed them.

Jokes on them.

Top 2 Tuesday

Top 2 Favorite Old Pictures
I forgot to scan some old pics earlier, so these from facebook will have to do.

1. Ok so this is more than 1 pic. But from the same time period. Brandi and I have been bff's since the beginning of time. Which is 1984. Actually, we probably became friends in 1989ish. We used to dress up as sluts whores bar maids. Or something like that.

In this pic, I'm in the bottom right corner with my mouth full. Brandi is the back left sitting up. I need photo shop or something so I can draw cool arrows to point to people.
I just put this one in here because Brandi's mouth makes me laugh. We laughed at this pic for a while. We were both tooootally concentrating on stuff. I love my bff.

2.  These pics are of Norman the day after we got him.

He was such a widdle bitty baby! He was like 12 pounds.

I threw this one in bc Norman was in my hometown 4th of July parade. Shout out to Pawhuska, Oklahoma!

Honorable Mention:

Mallory as "Your Mom" circa Halloween 2005ish?

I...was a light socket. 1/2 of a couple's costume that Nate Dawg and I have used since 2004. He's the plug. Get it?

Miscellany Monday

Miscellany Monday @ lowercase letters

School started again after a nice 2 week fall break. Not sure how I feel about that.

We got a call Friday saying that the budget hadn't passed and school would be cancelled "until further notice"and we would for sure not be having school Monday. We did get paid Friday the 15. Then I got a call Saturday at 4:43pm saying that we would have school Monday. Glad I was on a 10 hour road trip with my father-in-law back to the great state of Tennessee. We had school today, budget was passed this morning, found out my teaching license won't transfer to Oklahoma...ya know, the usual.

So, looks like I'm not going to be teaching. I'll have to do all this crap in Oklahoma, plus take more college classes to get my license there. It's expensive, plus I'm taking a pay cut to teach in Oklahoma. Each state we moved to, I've taken a pay cut. It sucks. I'm not trying to brag, or look for sympathy or anything like that, but I am a damn good teacher. I work my tail off for my students, I love what I do, and I know the kids actually enjoy being in my class. But, with it being so difficult state to state, I think it's a sign.

Let the record show:
Texas: Did everything for my alternative certification (test, training, etc.). Had to have experience to get into a public school. Once in a public school, the first year you're paid just like another first year teacher, but it's considered your "student teaching". So, I taught at a private school to get experience to go to a public school. I moved after teaching the year of private school.

Tennessee: Didn't accept anything from Texas. Started over. Here I had to be hired by a district before I could be admitted to MTSU for alternative certification. That means 15 hours of college credit, and you have to teach 2 out of 3 years on the license. I took 6 hours this summer, was planning on taking at least one class this spring, the rest this summer. I got A's in both classes. I'm almost halfway finished with my 2nd year of teaching. And we're moving.

Oklahoma: Start completely over. Sent in all of the info they requested, a $50 check, then was told they wouldn't take my TN license. But they sure as heck cashed my $50 check. And there are no refunds. Not that it's an issue, but I just paid $50 to be told "no". Do you know how much stuff that could buy for my classroom? And there's a good possibility that we'll move again.

It's so frustrating. I told Nate Dawg that in a few months I'll laugh at this. It's pretty comical. I mean, it really is. I know it will be a lot funnier once everything around here has settled down. But right now, ugh, I'm just not ok with it. I'm doing my best not to be Eeyore and walk around with a rain cloud above my head.

But dadgum, is it a sign? Has all of this stress been worth it? If I could go back to my 19 year old self, I would slap me in the face, tell myself to just major in Education bc you'll waste so much time, money, and effort trying to get certified in 3 different states when you're in your mid 20's.

My mom said as long as I've helped one child, then it was worth it. I suppose that's true, glass half full, yada yada yada.

I've been telling Nate Dawg that this is probably a sign that I just shouldn't work. I should stay at home and take care of him...and Norman of course.

 He's not goin for it.

Theta Thursday

Theta Thursday was all about sisterhood, or something like that. My first few years in college, my sorority would not "require" but pretty much force everyone to hang out. We'd have pizza or ice cream and watch Grey's. By the time I was 21, we turned Theta Thursday was more of a time to get together and drink.

I'm bringin Theta Thursday back ladies. Each Thursday I'll feature one of my pledge sisters and a grand story of theirs.

First up, Mallory's recollection of breaking her foot. Titled, "It Sounded Like a Good Idea at the Time." Take it away Mal:

Let’s back the story up a little The whole month of April was a lovely time. I knew I was graduating in May and really nervous about the unknown of the “real world” I was really stressing out about it. I knew in a couple of months I was moving to the Texas Panhandle. I didn’t know anyone there. My family and friends were all going to be in Oklahoma and Houston. So I did what any 22 year would do with a signing bonus, a job secured and two months left in a college town…I partied. Hard.

One night I was out on a date and we indulged in the $ 7 Long Island Ice Tea’s at Malone’s. Why? I don’t know. I know it wasn’t because they tasted good. He lived walking distance from Campus Corner and closing time we hiked it back to his house. When we got back to his place his roommates were out and the living room was clean. He suggested we get comfortable on the couch and put on a movie. Uh oh. Even in my LIT haze I knew what this meant. Walking into an empty, clean, college house at 1 am shared by three boys set off the warning signal in my head. The “let’s get comfortable” line tripped the 5 bell alarm. Looking for an out, I saw lights on and music blaring from the house across the street. The house was being rented by a good friend of mine, Sam, so I suggested we go over and check it out. I really only half suggested – more showed him we were going because I called for him to follow me as I was running out the door. When I got across the street I saw plenty of red cups and cigarette butts lined up on the porch. Sam was having a party. I let myself in and the place was packed. Sam, was a liberal arts major. Very into local music and the local artist scene. The place was packed with shabby chic hippies. I scooted around the house in search of Sam to no avail. I finally reached the back door and stepped outside. The house was built on the top of the hill. The patio was a wooden deck, without siding and steps down the hill to the yard. I spotted Sam across the yard. He was talking to a rather, popular crush worthy journalist at OU. Both of them waved at me. This is where the LITs come into play ( I believe) for some unknown reason I thought it would be cool to skip using the steps and step directly from the top of the deck and land on the hill. This is about 5 ft. Did I jump? No. I just waved my goofy “hi guys” wave and stepped off. From in my head, I was thinking I was going to look oh so cool. From their perspective they saw me take a step off the patio into the air and land in a crunch on the ground 5 ft below me. Once I my first foot hit the ground I felt a snap. The main shot up threw my leg I lost my breath. The weight of the rest of me could not be supported by my leg. I didn’t land on both my feet. I landed on one, it broke and the rest of me folded up like a cheap lawn chair. I heard a “OMG” from the hipsters above me on the deck. I was in serious pain, but I tried to play it off like nothing happened and walked/hobbled over to Sam and the hot guy. First thing Sam says is, “Are you okay?” Me, “What are you talking about?” Sam, “ You busted it big time.” Me (so smooth) “Thought it would be faster than taking the stairs.” The pain and the embarrassment were more than I could handle. I left the party with the help of my bar date. He gave me a piggy-back back to his side of the street. We ended up watching that movie, but I got the whole couch to myself. I had to keep my foot stretched out and on ice. That left no room for two on the couch (denied!)

The next morning my foot was so swollen I could not get my sandal on. I couldn’t even put weight on that foot. He dropped me off at my house and I hopped inside. I did what any other child in pain would do.. I called my grandparents who lived five minutes away. I told my grandmother I fell (finally admitting to what the graceful plunge really was) and I needed to go to the doctor, but couldn’t drive myself. My grandmother said she could take me to the doctor. She asked if I needed anything else. I said, “yes. Taco Bueno.” (I was hungover). Ten minutes later my grandparents were at my door with Advil and Taco Bueno. God, I love them.

I got an X-ray and yes my foot was broken in a hairline fracture. For it to heal I would have to stay off it and wear a medical boot for support. This boot was blue and white and downright ugly. I wore it at your wedding because at that point my foot still hurt so bad. That night I paired it with my black strappy wedge for my right foot. So I had on one heel and one hospital boot. The difference was about two-three inches. The next day my hip hurt really bad from walking/dancing everywhere and not being level.

Moral of the story – Use stairs.

Bleh

Do you know what I love? Finding out when you're on your fall break that you might not be able to return to your job. NOT!

My school district is 90 late on passing the fiscal budget for this school year. They're saying that our paychecks this Friday will bounce and that schools will be closed as early as Monday.

Not sure if this is definite or what. The school board had an emergency meeting tonight and the budget was voted down AGAIN. All of the Nashville news stations are covering it.

I wonder what parents have to say about this.

This is a weird feeling.

Ay Dios Mio!

It's that time again.

Last Friday we were at Nate Dawg's cousin's wedding in Louisville. The rooftop wedding was SCHEDULED for 6:30, open bar was 7-9, cash bar 9-11. Sooo...the wedding started at about 7. Ok ok, not so bad. Except for the fact that Nate Dawg and I had $7 in cash to our names. We were hoping to take complete advantage of the open bar, but by the time the wedding was finished, we only had an hour and a half. Ay Dios Mio!

No biggie, because we stocked up on free drinks. Ay Dios Mio!

So what if we're grown ups and both have good paying jobs, free drinks are free drinks!

After a few free drinks, the dancing really started. There was a big group of girls out on the dance floor doing the cupid shuffle. I kept trying to get Nate Dawg's single cousin out there to dance, he kept denying me. Boys! oh, and Ay Dios Mio!

Apparently I tried so hard to get him out there that two buttons on my dress popped off, landing on the dance floor. Classy. The two buttons just happened to be half of the buttons holding my dress closed in the chestal region. (chestal region=medical terms, for real)

Anyway, the two buttons were on the floor. Nate Dawg's cousin pointed and laughed. I could not stop laughing long enough to pick up the buttons. So they just sat there on the floor for what seemed to be 3 minutes.

Now, it's not like I have this huge chestal region (thanks ma). There was no reason for those buttons to pop off my little black (super cute) dress. It could be a cool trick at parties...NOT

Maybe the girls just wanting to come out and say hello?
After I picked the buttons up from the dance floor, I lost them. Does gorilla glue work on dresses? Ay Dios Mio!

Tuesday Tag Along

Tuesday Tag-Along

I just joined this Tuesday Tag Along. It's a way to get extra followers. Not sure anyone actually wants to follow me, but with this little game, they have to. muhahaha

On another note-I need to get a spray tan. The last time I got one, I actually worked at a tanning salon. We have this wedding Thursday and I am suuuper pale. I found a coupon for a Magic Tan. That was the kind that was at Tan and Tone. "Tan and Tone America, home of the mist on Magic Tan, this is Morgan, how may I help you?" Lots of m's.

I think I'll go tomorrow and get it done. You can't shower for 6 hours afterwards, so I'll stink bad, but it'll be worth it.

Also, I keep turning off my phone alarm. I woke up at 8:48 this morning and missed my 8:30 workout class. Oops. But I love fall break. Hopefully Katie wasn't going to meet me there. But if you want to meet me there Katie, I will totally set another alarm and put it across the room so I'll actually wake up. For you I will.

Remember that song?

Also, I can't find my phone at the moment. Sometimes when I turn off my alarm, I throw my phone. I'm usually dreaming about a bomb or something like that when I throw it. I need to check on that.

My bff Brandi dropped off her daughter Cailyn at daycare for the first time yesterday. She was a bit upset, to say the least. BUT-Cailyn did great, Brandi did great, I didn't hear how Steve did, but I'm sure he did great as well.

I refuse to turn my heater on. It's supposed to be 80 degrees on Friday. It's 61 in my house right now. I am currently wearing Nate Dawg's sweatshirt, yoga pants, socks, and a blanket. I'm stubborn. Very stubborn.

Now I have a dog in my lap, I think I'll be ok.

Top 2 Tuesday

Top 2 Dream Kitchens

1. Ree Ree's kitchen. aka Pioneer Woman. When she started redoing the lodge, I got super excited because that was an amazing house anyway. Now that it's all been redone. I want it. Minus the cowboys and gravel road that it's on.

Here are some pics
This is the bar area, off to the side of the kitchen. I've hit that. What?
The handy dandy fridge drawer. We used this lots when cooking stuff for Brandi's Shower, as well as our pastor's daughter's wedding.

I'm sure y'all have seen these, but these pictures do not do it justice. The kitchen is very user friendly, open, and just really cool looking.

2. I also really like this kitchen I saw in Southern Living. The lady is from Tulsa and I totally think we can be friends when Nate Dawg and I move there.
